Planning FAQs

How many days do you need in the Whitsundays?+

Three to four days lets you do a Whitehaven day sail, a scenic flight or reef trip, and a day around Airlie. A full week opens up overnight sailing and outer reef trips.

How do I get to Airlie Beach from the airport?+

Whitsunday Coast Airport (Proserpine, PPP) is 40 minutes by shuttle bus or transfer. Hamilton Island Airport requires a 1-hour ferry to Airlie.

What's the cheapest time to visit the Whitsundays?+

February to early April. Hot and wet but accommodation is up to 40% cheaper. Tour operators still run most days.

Do I need a car in Airlie Beach?+

No if you're staying in town — most tours include pickup. Yes if you want to explore Cedar Creek Falls, Conway National Park or beaches further afield.

When does stinger season end in the Whitsundays?+

Officially November to May. Stinger suits are still recommended outside these months for sun protection.
