Airlie Beach Lagoon
Free, lifeguard-patrolled saltwater swimming lagoon right in the centre of Airlie Beach.
The Airlie Beach Lagoon is the free public swimming pool that runs along the town foreshore. It's saltwater, filtered, around 1.4m at the deepest, and patrolled by lifeguards in school holidays and on weekends. It's the smartest answer to the marine stinger problem from November to May — you get a tropical-water swim without the risk. There's a separate kids' wading area at the western end. The lagoon is surrounded by grass, free BBQs, a covered playground, and a 1.5km walking path that runs the full length of the foreshore. Free parking is available across the road. It's the most reliable wet-weather plan for families and the best place to kill a few hours between flights or tours.
